Nightscapes from the Alps

The Alps are one of my favorite regions for nightscape photography. Living close to the Black Forest and the Swiss border, I can reach the mountains within just a few hours — a place of dark skies, dramatic peaks and unforgettable nights under the stars.

About this collection

The Alps are among the most impressive places for nightscape photography in Europe. Dark mountain skies, high-altitude viewpoints, clear air and dramatic landscapes make them an incredible region for capturing the night sky.

Growing up in the Black Forest, I have always been relatively close to the mountains. From my home region near the Swiss border, I can reach the Swiss Alps in just a few hours, and even the Austrian Alps are close enough for focused astrophotography trips. This makes the Alps one of the most accessible and rewarding regions for my nightscape work.

Throughout most of the year, the Alps offer outstanding opportunities for astrophotography — from Milky Way nights and moonlit mountain scenes to snow-covered peaks, sea of clouds and quiet high-altitude locations far away from city lights. This collection brings together some of my favorite alpine nightscapes, captured during clear nights in one of Europe’s most breathtaking landscapes.
