Black Forest in south Germany

The Black Forest is where I grew up and where many of my first serious night-sky projects began. Its dark forests, mountain ridges and quiet viewpoints make it one of my favorite places for astrophotography close to home.

About this collection

This gallery brings together selected astrophotography images captured across the Black Forest in southern Germany. Located close to the border region of Germany, France and Switzerland, the Black Forest offers a strong mix of accessibility, altitude and comparatively dark skies for Central Europe.

Many locations in the region reach elevations of over 1,000 meters, which can provide clearer air, better transparency and more stable conditions than lower surrounding areas. Combined with its forests, mountain roads and open viewpoints, the Black Forest has become an important place for my nightscape and Milky Way photography over the years.

The images shown here represent some of my strongest work from the region, captured during different seasons, weather conditions and nights under the stars.
